Edwards naturally begins with a great, simple overview of the Paleo framework for diet, which only makes sense as all real health and weight loss begins with diet.
But the real treasure of this book is his workout program, full of full-body exercises that challenge fitness but also ensure that proper movement is the goal. And speaking of goals, goal-setting using the S.M.A.R.T. framework is the first portion of the fitness section, making sure that all fitness begins with the proper mindset.
Many of the exercises presented are familiar exercises, and many of them will be new to those who are new to the concept of movement-based exercise. The various groups of movement exercises are explained clearly, examples are given of ways to increase intensity on each exercise, and proper active rest is stressed (both between "sets" of exercises as well as active rest days). And a key component of the program is that FUN should be had at all times! Partner exercises are given their important section as well - increasing the fun factor.
The programs in the book start at a basic level, and increase in intensity and difficulty at a very good pace. There's nothing too hard here for a beginner, and there is plenty of variety and intensity to keep a person interested on an ongoing basis.
I would be more than comfortable handing this book out as a primer to Paleo fitness to anyone, as it contains both the basic concepts and a wonderful program for getting one's self into great shape from the standpoint of both movement fitness and general preparedness.

"Paleo Fitness 'hat mich nicht nur neugierig gemacht, um neue Rezepte auszuprobieren, sondern mich auch zu einem künftig eher spielerischen Training inspiriert. Ich freue mich schon darauf, das wird Spass machen! :) Danke für den Input, Darryl!

I bought this book on recommendation of a friend and though it sounds clichéd, it has genuinely transformed my life and interaction with my young family.
The book is well-written, concise and practical. There is a nuts and bolts introduction to paleo nutrition, with references for those wanting to dig deeper. If you are already up to speed on ancestral nutrition, this provides an excellent refresher. There is a handy two week meal plan with delicious recipes all the family enjoy - even my fussy four year old. I'm such a firm believer in this approach - based on my own personal results using the book - that I am even weaning my baby as a Paleo-baby.
The real beauty of this book, and where it outshines all other books on the market, is Edwards' approach to mentally transforming your attitude to "fitness" or "working out". As the book says, "Don't work out, play out". This fundamental shift in attitude enables the reader to easily incorporate movement and play outs into everyday life - and for me, this means with the whole family. There is a four week plan for three levels of fitness, with the primary focus on whole body movement rather than "exercise" and easy to follow descriptions of the movements together with photos of both males and females performing the movements.
With time constraints of a modern life, two careers and young children, I needed a plan that was achievable and could be integrated into everyday life, and wouldn't require hours and hours of my time or special equipment. I followed the nutritional advice and 4 week workout plans in the book and devised SMART goals to keep me on track. The SMART goals and other great motivational tips are really helpful in staying on course.
Four weeks into integrating the nutritional advice and playouts in my life have seen tremendous changes in my wellbeing. In only four weeks I feel physically confident and healthy. I have dropped two dress sizes, even though my goal was health rather than weight loss. My children love playing out with me and I haven't laughed so much while working out...ever! And being able to utilise my new found vitality to play with my kids is priceless. There is really no reason to see "exercise" or fitness as yet another thing on the "to-do" list. Practical and playful movement is here to stay!

Long à recevoir pour rien à lire ou presque.
